I was going through MJ’s pictures and came across this pic. I specifically remember it because it was the first time he wore this outfit. It was a gift from his Auntie. Gotta love the dimples. 😊
The other day we all decided to go to the park. My husband would play basketball with people that are 20 years younger than him (he still believes he can play better than them lol), while the kids and I took a walk. It started out well. MJ was further ahead of me than I like, but he now stops and waits for me at certain places in the park. During our second lap, my daughter noticed that no one was on the swings. It’s been a while since she swung on one, so I said “ok go and swing.” MJ used to LOVE the swing. It would calm him down. The OT he had years ago would always make him swing at the beginning of each session. Anyhow, They both began to swing when all of a sudden MJ purposely and continuously threw himself off of the swing. This wasn’t him being playful (at first I thought he was joking around). He was having a mini meltdown. I HATED that I had to make my daughter stop swinging but MJ would not stop. Eventually he got up and we started walking again. I could tell that he was still upset but he walked with us back to the basketball court. I am still not sure what triggered it but I think we will try it again this weekend.

We had talked about my birthday coming up earlier on in the week. The kids listened, then my daughter talked about all of the things SHE wanted to do lol. Anyway, on my birthday morning everyone was asleep except for MJ of course ( he still wakes up very early in the morning no matter when he goes to bed at night). He heard me moving about and came into my bedroom. He looked at me and said “mommy today is your birthday. Happy Birthday mommy.” He then closed the door and went back to his room to play. For the first time in his life no one told him to say it. No one reminded him that it was my birthday. My son said it on his own with a big, genuine smile on his face. Best. Gift. Ever. 😊
Ok…I have to write about this in parts because I get way to anxious when I think about it…
MJ will be going to middle school in August (Jesus, help me). As I have said several times before, I teach middle school and so I think I am even more nervous than the normal parent (I have just seen too much). He will be in a self-contained classroom for the majority of the day and will be taught the major subjects in that room. He will attend “regular” classes for PE, Art, and Music. Due to our schedules I have no choice but to place him in before care. I have been trying to get him into a before care since MARCH! I thought about placing him in the “regular” before care but after one visit I KNEW it was not the place for him. There were LOTS of kids and not much organization. It looked more like a student hangout. There was no way on God’s green earth that I was placing him there! I was told that the school had a special needs before care! I went unannounced and visited them. IT WAS AWESOME! The kids were all working on a fun activity and there was plenty of SUPERVISION. I looked at the kid’s faces and they were pleasant. I immediately began making phone calls to get him into that before care. Finally after playing phone tag for weeks with the director, we made an appointment to meet. It was required that MJ come with me to the meeting. I am happy to report that everything went well! I filled out the paperwork while MJ played on his Nabi. We are now officially enrolled in the program. This puts my mind at ease (a little) because I know that he will be properly supervised in the morning before school starts…One small step completed!
