During the last few months it has been increasingly difficult to get MJ to want to go to church. If I’m honest, it’s never been a completely smooth experience but lately he yells, and has a huge attitude about it. So I decided to have him stay with a family member while I went with my daughter. I just have to admit how awesome it was to not have to worry about MJ’s behavior (loud outbursts) while there! I was able to completely focus, participate and listen to the pastor!!! It was honestly one of the best Sundays I’d had in a while. This is not to say that I’ll stop trying with MJ, but I will definitely do this more often.

I can totally relate to this post. Nathan was not autistic but was always restless and disruptive during Mass. I usually ended up frustrated and sweaty and out of sorts. All that to say a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do sometimes. Hugs!

Lol! I usually miss half of the message and just can’t concentrate the way I need too!

Church was tough for us too. I felt so awful anytime my son made an outburst or would scream. We finally found a church that did children’s church during regular church (and they had an autism specialist that worked with the kids too) so we could concentrate and he could be content. I hope you find what works for you.

I wish our church had a special needs Childrens church. It would be amazing.

Are there leaders or others in the church that may support it or other parishioners that may come in that would benefit from one? Wouldn’t hurt to look into it.
